Hotel Le Pont d’Or (345€, dp for two nights)
After a thunderstorm last night, the air is fresh and clean. Nick is in a picture taking mode, and I’m nervous about how hot it’s going to be. The hiking is pleasant and not too hot or too hard, and the weather turns cloudy and overcast (perfect hiking weather). We head for Figeac and complete 19 kilometers. We have a mini melt down when walking into the city… “Oh God, where are we?” but finally figure it out and, can you believe it?, we are staying at a Best Western! We have a room with a balcony overlooking the river, a bathtub, a hair dryer … HEAVEN!! (at least for me). Figeac is a big city compared with where we have been so far… noisy and bustling, with shopping, museums, and lots of impressive old buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries. For the rest of the day and on next, we are sightseers. Dinner at the hotel, with Bonnie having a tomato-arugula salad with pesto (fabulous), salmon l’organge, and a so-so dessert. Nick has a filo-filled cheese affair, then steak with a Roquefort sauce.
