Moissac to Auvillar – 21.5K

This entry is part 3 of 33 in the series Part 2: Moissac to Puente la Reina

Hotel l’Horilage (148€, dp)

We hike from Moissac to Auvillar… along the bank of a canal for much of the time.  It gently rains on and off all morning.  We enjoy the easy, flat walk under sycamore trees that shade us from the occasional sun and shield us from the spotty rain.  We’re passed by boats, trains and lots of pilgrims.  We stop for lunch in Pommevic… croque monsieurs and coffees.  Back on the trail we are joined by Duncan McKenzie, a young man from London who is doing a series of articles on the Camino.  He interviews us and takes our picture.  He’s really cute!  We ascend the road to hilltop Auvillar, arriving at 2:45 PM, hot and tired.  This is a beautiful little town with a huge clock tower next to our hotel. We have baths and then attend to very sore feet.  A walk around town takes us to its medieval market square, quite charming.  We enjoy a wine and gin and tonic on the hotel’s patio and then take a well-deserved nap.  Dinner at 8:00 PM… a tri-colored local tomato salad, comfit of duck with local vegetables and potatoes, baked apple in caramel sauce with ice cream… couldn’t be better!  Again, ahhhhhhh France.
