Auvillar to Miradoux – 16.9K

This entry is part 4 of 33 in the series Part 2: Moissac to Puente la Reina

Le Bonheur (100€)***

We roll out of town at 9:00 AM after a lovely breakfast of rolls (hijacked for lunch), croissants, and café lait chaud.  It is a beautiful day with some morning overcast, great for walking.  The trail leads us through fields of burnt-out sunflowers and endless rows of corn ready for harvest.  We stop for boissons in the charming village of Saint-Aubine and then walk on 10 more kilometers.  We lunch in the shade of an orchard and enjoy a beautiful view of rolling hills. image021 Our good old lunch of ham and cheese on a baguette with mustard is most welcome.  We arrive in Miradoux at 3:45 PM, too early for our chambre d’hote.  We walk around town with little enthusiasm, very hot and tired.  We find a tiny store and indulge in orangeade for Nick and wine for me… helpful.  Finally at 4:30 we check in and are delighted with our hosts and our FABULOUS ROOM!!!  We have the inn’s Rose Room, complete with a sitting room, a bedchamber… and a bathtub beyond compare.  We, natch, have a dunk, then a nap, then appear on the terrace at 8:00 for a grand sunset view (looks like the hills of West Marin), and a delicious repast! Roast chicken with garlic potatoes, a homegrown tomato salad, a green salad with bacon, apple-cherry crumble, wine and herb tea.  We rest so well.
